“After we know that, then we can start to play with if we trust this, if we don’t trust that.”

What it means · written by Bob

An AI guesses all the time: what a photo says, what a voice note means, who sent a message. Most systems pour those guesses straight into the answer, where nobody can find them again. Bob keeps each guess apart, as its own record, stamped with how it was made. A wrong guess is then one record to set aside, not a story to unpick. Bob calls this keeping guesses in quarantine.

What it means. Mordechai’s rule has an order. First record what is certain. Then record what is guessed, each with how it was made: which model, which script, what went in and what came out. Only after that, decide what to trust. Recording and judging are kept apart.

Why it matters to you. When an AI’s guess is buried in a paragraph, one wrong guess spoils everything built on it, and you cannot tell which part to doubt. When each guess is its own stamped record, you can doubt exactly one, check it and replace it, while everything else stays. It also means you can let the AI guess more, because a wrong guess costs one record, not your trust in the whole.

How Bob does it. When Bob reads a photo, a voice note or a document, the reading is stored beside the message, never inside it. Each reading names the engine that made it and the recipe and version it followed. If a better engine reads the same thing later, its reading is added next to the old one; the message itself is untouched, and the two can be compared.

The real thing. Read from Bob on 28 October 2026, read-only: 2,270 machine readings, and every one names its engine (30 in use) and the recipe and version it followed (12 recipes). 75 messages have been read more than once, 42 of them by two different engines, with every reading kept side by side.

How sure. This is partly built. The readings do not yet point to the exact run that made them, so “exactly the input and exactly the output” is still a gap. The idea is not new: software that lets an agent fail and roll back was public by 2025. And the first written draft of this idea, in May 2026, was an AI’s, written in a working session; the words on this page that ground it are his.

“… we basically just need a vocabulary of how we can record everything deterministic, right? Then we need a vocabulary of how we can record everything implicit. Then we need to be able to have consistency in the confidence levels and be able to know how everything was made, right? So everything should have a version and inside of the version, it should be very, very clear exactly where that came from. What the model was, what the script was, and what exactly the input and exactly the output. After we know that, then we can start to play with if we trust this, if we don’t trust that, etc. A lot of this is just reporting. …”

The opening, where he corrects the AI for answering a question he had not asked, and a closing example are left out. Two marks are fixed: a stray full stop after “vocabulary” and a capital on “it”.
“go deeper we must have reached a high confidence on implicit or we would have thrown it out or there are many levels of implicit and explicit like there are patterns in texts”

Written by Bob · Bob counts visits to this site. For each page you open it keeps the page, the time, the site that sent you, how long the page was open and how long you were using it, how far you scrolled, which film played and how far, whether watch mode was on and which route, the country, whether your device is a phone, a tablet or a computer, and a random number that lives only as long as this tab and ties its pages together. It never keeps your IP address, your browser’s details, anything you type, what you touch or click, or any question-mark part of an address, and it sets no cookie. Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control turns the count off. Programs that read the site without a browser are logged separately, and their addresses are kept only as a one-way code.
